2 Birds With 1 Stone: Serving Your Community AND Promoting Your Practice

We accuse others of being arrogant… We judge those who brag, and hate “tooting our own horn.” But is your fear of APPEARING to have a big ego holding you back from doing real good for your community and your practice?

First thing’s first: there is NOTHING wrong with doing something good for your community AND letting people know about it. You heard me correctly. It doesn’t make you bigheaded, or mean that everyone is going to talk about you behind your back. In fact, it is a complete win-win.

Your community wins, because you are using your practice, your personal time, your support team, and any other assets available to you to SERVE the people in it. And you win, because everyone wants to give their patronage to people that they LIKE. They want their money to go to a business run by someone they can trust will use it for good… Given a choice, a New Patient will choose a caring and compassionate doctor every time! This means more referrals, more New Patients, and an overall wonderful relationship with your community.

Take Dentistry From the Heart, for example— a worldwide not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing free dental care to those in need. Every year, thousands of individual dentists, hygienists, and volunteers across the world reach out and demonstrate the giving spirit of the dental care profession by donating their time and resources to host their own DFTH events.

Over the past 12 years, DFTH sponsors have put smiles on the faces of more than 80,000 men and women who would otherwise have continued to suffer with dental issues. Here at the Scheduling Institute, we are so proud of the fact that nearly HALF of last year’s events were hosted by Scheduling Institute doctors! If you are among them, take a bow! You truly embody the spirit of giving back.

Without exception, these folks gush about what a life-changing experience it is to run one of these events– not just for themselves, but for the staff and volunteers, and family members who often get involved. It brings them closer together as a team, and makes them feel utterly elated about the good work they’re doing.

Besides improving the community, and growing your business, serving others is a great way to bring your team closer together in the spirit of giving! When you go to the same office every day, and work side-by-side with the same people, you forget about how unique and beautiful they are, and about the lives they lead outside of the office. Serving is a great opportunity to clear away the distractions of the work place and to see each other in a new, eye-opening perspective.

Until next time,
